Nurtured Roots, established in 2021, is a garden design, installation, and maintenance company — unlike any landscaping service you’ve encountered before.

we DESIGN with ecology IN MIND.
In typical landscaping, plant choices are frequently based on aesthetic appeal rather than their ecological roles. Ideally, plant selection should prioritize their impact on the environment, such as whether a plant supports local wildlife or contributes positively to ecosystem functions.
We specialize in building ecologically valuable gardens — promoting the reduction of lawn and the use of plants native to the Midwest or those with similar ecological value. Our designs heavily feature long-lived perennial plants and woody species as to foster a bountiful and balanced ecosystem – allowing our gardens to thrive without pesticides, excess water, fertilizer, constant weeding or need for frequent plant replacements or substitutions.

we choose the right plant for the right place.
Conventional landscaping design methodologies often overlook the importance of soil health, not just in terms of its texture and chemical composition, but also the biological aspects. Healthy soil plays a vital role in supporting plant life, yet it is often neglected in traditional landscape planning.
We believe everyone benefits from being more connected to their natural surroundings. With years of experience in the garden and landscape industry, each team member possesses a passion and understanding of biodiversity’s importance in the urban landscape.
Each of our crew members have been trained to maintain our gardens using sustainable and ethical methods. As a company, we are consistently educating ourselves on the most up-to-date garden practices to best support our planet and the creatures that inhabit it.

we implement GREEN gardening practices.
Outdated landscaping practices remain common today, such as improper pruning, excessive mulching, and the widespread use of synthetic chemicals (herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers). These practices not only harm the environment but also present risks to public health and safety, especially when chemicals are applied improperly or without proper training. Over time, these practices can lead to lasting damage, negatively affecting both landscapes and the people who maintain them.
We utilize electric leaf blowers over gas and prioritize the use of hand tools.
All plant debris, sod and soil removed from our work sites are brought to a local facility to be composted. Additionally, we pursue options to rehome or reuse hardscape materials such as bricks and pavers removed in demolition.
